Thoughts on Game 5

Well to be honest can i really say anything that hasnt already been said?

Great all around effort tonight by the Red Wings. I, like everyone else, was happy to see Pavel back on the ice playing field general. That guy is magic.

Now, on to a darker subject. The Penguins "antics" after going down 2-0 and eventually losing 5-0. It seems like most anti-penguins fans are screaming as loudly and as often as possible about how the Penguins are thugs. While you have the right to your opinions and whatever makes you feel better, i do not agree. They got frustrated and took some cheap penalties. Thats all it was. Happens almost every night in the regular season. A team gets down big and gets mad. Oh well get over it. Noone was hurt. Move on. Both teams are focused on game 6. Noone is thinking about game 5. I promise you. So the sooner everyone gets over all this hate then the better game 6 will be to watch.

Go Red Wings.

Thoughts on games 3 & 4

Now that games 3 and 4 are in the books here are my thoughts...

This is how it was supposed to happen. Remember people that this is why there is a 2-2-1-1-1 format in the playoffs. You are supposed to maintain home ice advantage. Teams are supposed to win on their home ice.

The Penguins played very well in 3 & 4 and the Red Wings did not play well enough. The Pens got the breaks they were dying for and the break well dried up for the wings. In game 3 i think it was as simple as MAF outplayed Ozzie. In game 4 the Red Wings forgot how to backcheck and play properly positioned defense for a 6 minute span.

The series shifts back to the Joe tomorrow night. Pav will be in the lineup finally. Hopefully this will light a fire under the wings butts and they can get it done.

Thoughts after games 1 and 2 SCF

Okay games one and two are over and done with in the Stanley Cup Finals. As most of you know the Red Wings posted back to back 3-1 wins. I thought i would write out a few of my thoughts about the games and perhaps a bit of a preview.

These games were nothing like last years games. The Penguins played hard and kept up with the red wings. We are lucky that MAF is not on his game. If we had run into a hot goalie the wings would be in some trouble. Both teams have had flashes of brillinace but nothing sustained. Both teams are actually not playing very well. There is not alot of open ice out there to work with for either club. I look for things to open up a little bit once in Pittsburgh since home team gets last change. That will mean the Penguins can get some favorable matchups. I dont know about all of you but i dont want to see the Hudler line go against Malkin.

On a different subject, will everyone shut up about the officiating? Both team's "fans" are driving me insane. I do not come on these boards to listen to 50 different drunk idiots screaming from the top of their keyboards about conspiracies and blind refs. Has everyone forgotten that this is a sport? Things are missed. Deal with it. The teams arent up in arms so you should follow suit. Deal with it people. Yes this includes all of you Red Wing fans that conveniently joined the site when the wings made the finals.

Games 3 and 4 should be a whole different animal. Remember the Penguins did not go down without a fight last year and there is no way they are going out easliy this year. They have a good home crowd and they will be ready to play. Hopefully the wings can withstand the charge that i am sure will happen right out of the gate. Should be fun tomorrow!

Dear 'Hawks fans,

Please dont suck. I am tired of playing teams with sucky fans. Please dont say that the Red Wings are too old. They are not old. Please dont say they arent physical. They are when they need to be. Please dont say that the Red Wings get all the calls. They dont. Noone does. There is no team in the history of sport that has not been screwed over by the refs at some point. Please dont say all red wings fans are fair weather bandwagon jumpers. Yeah some are but alot of us were drawn in by the greats like Stevie Y and Mr. Hockey. Please dont say that your team is deeper talent wise. Untrue my friends.

I understand we are your biggest rivals. But please be patient with us if we dont agree that youre our most hated team. I dont like your team. That should be enough.

Over the past day and a half all I have been hearing are these reasons the Red Wings will lose. I say you are silly and will be sorely dissapointed.

The Hawks can win the series. But dont think for a second that the wings will roll over and say "oh they are too young and fast". Prepare yourselves for a roller coaster ride.

NHL playoffs

Well it looks like the Wings caught somewhat of a break in the first round. The will be playing the Blue Jackets which means they will not have to travel to the west coast just yet. That is good news. However the Wings have not played briliantly against Columbas this year which is mildly concerning.

I am geeked. Best time of the year for me.

why i root for certain teams

Well lately a few of my posts have been crushed and dismissed because people assume i am a bandwagon fan. So i figured maybe i would try to explain how i became a fan of the teams i root for. We will start out with the one that seems most out of place.

I root for the Atlanta Braves. I live in michigan. doesnt make sense right? Well when i was 7 or so my little league team was called... you guessed it... the braves. immediately i started following baseball with my dads help. He asked who i liked most it was Atlanta. And for a brief period when i was 9 it was a little bit of the expo's because of their cool colored unis. But now i have realized my mistake and i am 100% braves.

The next team is the packers. This one is easy. I was born and raised in the UP. The UP is not lions country. It is packer country. My friends liked the packers so i liked the packers. As i grew older and learned of their history i liked them more and more. Now i try to make it across the lake every year for a game. We will see if it works out this year.

The Red wings. again i was born in the UP during the Red Wing/ north stars rivalry. Stevie Y was my hero growing up playing hockey. The red wings are by far my favorite team and its also the forum i visit most often.

The pistons i havent followed very closely since grant hill left the team. I liked the pistons mostly because i never liked jordan. Who beat him early in his career? Yep.. the pistons. Now... i dont really care about the NBA.

Finally UM. I follow michigan because my grandparents met there and its all they talked about all through my childhood. So it is the team i paid attention to. I graduated from central michigan and i would put them as my favorite because i follow the team closer than i do UM but there arent many CMU fans to talk to on CBS.

So there you have it.

Day Two:

Well my rep went up a whole point overnight after i started this thing so i suppose thats good news. On to the days sports.

UM mens basketball lost to Illinois. The Illini have a good squad this year. What made the win even more impressive is they were without their team "leader". Hopefully Michigan has done enough to go dancing.

MSU beat up on Minnesota. No suprises there. MSU is a lock for a 2 seed and a dark horse for a 1. Depends on how the dice fall for that 1 seed. NC will have to lose big tomorrow in the ACC tourney i think as will louisville.

UM mens hockey beat WMU today to take a 1-0 series lead over WMU in a best of 3. I see UM getting to the frozen four this year. If they get a 1 seed in the NCAAs they are almost a lock.

The pistons won in OT tonight also. HUGE block by Maxiell to cover his butt for not boxing out in the final seconds. Nail biter there. The whole are we better without AI debate... yeah i have no idea. AI is an insane talent but destroys teams and i dont think people play as hard when he is out there. I would rather he never come to detroit but hey, you have to make it work somehow. Curry seems to be a bit shell shocked this year when it comes to being a HC. We will see if Detroit can improve their playoff seeding. You dont want to be a 7 or 8 seed this year! Too much power at the top.

Red Wings play a dreaded saturday game. They have not gone well the past few saturdays. I have the day off so i get to watch and see what happens. Hossa should be back. I dont know what that will do to shore up the seive that our D/goaltending has bcome.

Drive safe everyone!

Day one: A young man's quest...

To regain his Superstar status! Haha.

Now i know 90% of the CBSsports site is up in arms about the new policies being implemented. To be honest i didnt much care. Until i was dropped to AS status due to my value plummeting. Why did it die by 65 points? Who knows. I dont care. I just know if i start a blog maybe the rating will improve. At the same time i might be able to waste some valuable time at work. The casino business is far less exciting than you would think.

Tonight i am keeping an eye on the Red Wings game. 28 shots in the first period for detroit and only 2 goals. Why were there 28 shots you may ask. That would be due to the 7 penaties taken by the flames. 3 of which were majors. That shotting % has to improve guys.

Another note. Good job Michigan mens BBall team. Beat Iowa. Woooooo.

MSU looks very strong going into the big dance. Look for them to make alot of noise they have a solid group.

Michigan Ice hockey plays western this weekend. WMU could give the wolverines some trouble but i dont expect an upset.

Oh how could i forget. UM got a verbal commitment from the top QB in the state for 2010. Interesting how everyone thought MSU would dominate in state recruiting from here on out. Let the battle begin!

Drive safe everyone!
